Edtech is warming up iKids to such subjects as geometry and vocabulary as the iPod Touch makes its way through school districts in cold Minnesota. According to twincities.com, such apps as TanZen and Word Salad are engaging fourth graders to the point were little discipline needs to be imposed. Teacher Jean Stai states:
“Suddenly, it’s not so horrifying to study your facts tables. It is like a game. What would be tedious with paper and pencil is no longer so with bright colors and things moving.”
Jon Smith, a fifth and sixth grade special education teacher says the iPod Touch has been a godsend. The touch screens seem to “electrify” the kids with learning disabilities. Could devices be a portal to main stream and special ed learning styles we didn’t know existed? It will be exciting to find out as tech continues to catalyze the evolution of traditional teaching methods.
